8 Valuable Resources for Music Teachers
You can never have too many teaching resources, right?
It seems I'm always looking for a piece of sheet music for this student or a fun concept-based game for that student. I'm also continuously searching for ways to streamline the business side of my teaching with helpful studio management tools, bookkeeping support, and email shortcuts.
Whether you're a studio teacher, K-12 music teacher, or children's choir director, I hope you find at least one thing on this list that's helpful to you!
Here are eight of my favorite resources for music teachers:
Wave Accounting
This all-in-one online accounting system that features free (unlimited) invoicing, ability to accept credit card payments, automatic billing and reminders, accounting support, and more. Wave is the perfect small business tool!
MusicNotes.com
Looking for a Level 1 arrangement of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer"? MusicNotes.com is one of my go-to sites for sheet music. They offer a variety of popular, jazz, classical, and Broadway arrangements (varying levels for many different instruments) as instant digital downloads and many pieces are transposable so you can choose a key that works best.
iMetronome app
Gone are the days of carrying around a metronome in your bag. This handy (free) app is easy-to-use, extremely portable, and convenient, for lessons and practicing sessions!
PianoPedagogy.org
As the name suggests, this resource is geared toward piano pedagogy. However, it offers practical teaching tips, inspirational videos, and helpful resources that I think many music teachers would benefit from. Visit PianoPedagogy.org for more.
Susan Paradis
Piano teacher and music educator, Susan Paradis offers a large collection of sheet music, arrangements, games, and studio incentives on her website. A great resource!
TeachersPayTeachers.com
TeachersPayTeachers.com is dedicated to providing lesson plans, games, resources, and teaching aids for teachers in all disciplines. The content is created by teachers, for teachers.
Faber app
Randall and Nancy Faber, the authors of the well-known Piano Adventures series, recently released an app to accompany their method books. The app features digital copies of the music and expertly-recorded accompaniment tracks for use in lessons and at home.
BlankSheetMusic.net
The easiest way to print staff paper (plus, it's free!). Go to BlankSheetMusic.net, choose how many staves you'd like on a page, which clefs you'd like (or leave it blank), and click print. Easy peasy, and perfect for student composition projects!
MileIQ app
Keeping track of mileage is one of the most tedious parts of tax preparation for freelancers. Some people are really good about keeping a written log, with starting and ending mileage for every business trip they take. Others resort to looking back through the calendar at the end of the year and figuring out what mileage to count. MileIQ takes the guess work out of the equation and save you tons of time by tracking your mileage for you.
